Dr. Richard Shanaman, D.D.S, P.C : About Your Doctor
Dr. Richard Shanaman couples his commitment to caring with a professional background. He is a 1958 graduate of Dickinson College and a 1962 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry.
After serving as a Captain and dentist in the United States Air Force, he went on to attain a postgraduate degree from Boston University School of Dentistry in 1967 where he specialized in periodontics.
Dr. Shanaman began performing implants as early as 1966, and was the first surgeon in Berks County trained in the modern implant techniques used today. Dr. Shanaman was one of the original evaluators for regeneration of bone around implants and teeth.
His works have been published in textbooks and international journals. He was the first to publish on the need to regenerate bone in order to place implants in a position where they would be most cosmetically pleasing and functional.
He often serves on committees involved with "state of the art" therapy, and lectures internationally on esthetics and regeneration in restorative dentistry, implants and periodontics. A b background in periodontics and implants enables him to provide patients with the type of restorative esthetic results they seek.
Dr. Shanaman served as Director of Implantology in the Graduate Department of Periodontology, Clinical Professor of Periodontology and Clinical Affiliate in the Laboratory for Applied Periodontal & Craniofacial Regeneration at Temple University Dental School.
